Bookstores: newsletter sign-up a must!

Awww... it's booked out! Bumped into a friend at Addison Road Markets a couple of weeks ago, where she told me that Shearer's Bookshop on Norton Street had had a craft creating extravaganza based on Stuck. Stuck is Oliver Jeffers latest children's book. Then last week, I saw this poster whilst at Leichhardt Library.

Oliver Jeffers is a kids book author from Northern Ireland. A friend, who now lives in the UK with her family of four children, gave O his first Jeffers, The Way Back Home. So began our family's enjoyment of many of his other titles. O (our two years + a few months) L.O.V.E.S. The Way Back HomeLost and Found and Stuck.

Shearer's Bookshop has organised an Oliver Jeffers event. Jeffers is out for the Sydney Writer's Festival. Whilst this author talk is not something my two year could attend, I would have loved to go! Writing children's books has always been a pipe dream of mine...

Anyway... the nub of this post is - I have subscribed to Shearer's Bookstore newsletter. I could not find Berkelouw's newsletter sign-up (if they have one - I am going to call them and find out).

Berkelouw Books is another good book store that has Newtown and Leichhardt locations. The  Newtown store has story time every Thursday at 10.30am in the cafe. I forgot to ask what age their story time is aimed at. I called the Leichhardt store, but the line was busy, so I am not sure if they also do a weekly story time. I'll try to find out.

  1. Oooh that's a great tip about Berkelouw in Newtown. I've tried to take my daughter to the Thursday morning event at Marrickville Library but it's a bit young for her.

  3. Hi Vicky,
Thanks so much for the excellent blog post. The event was fantastic - so sorry you missed out! Newsletter signups are definitely a great idea on that front.
If you're interested we did get almost all of his books signed (though it sounds like your collection might not be missing anything!).

If you're available on Tuesday mornings, we also have Storytime at 11am. Our children's specialist Rachel runs them and she's fantastic.
If you'd like me to sign you up for the Kids eNewsletter as well, drop me a line over at hannah@shearersbookshop.com.au

  4. Hi Hannah

Good to hear Oliver Jeffers gig was a hit!

Yes, I've started getting 'Shearers Snippets' (kids e-newsletters) and it's great!

The simultaneous storytime on Wednesday 23rd May at 11am sounds good. Will definitely try and make that - if our little ones colds are on the mend by then! We've all got colds at the mo' - so we've had lots of home based storytime's:)

    cheers
